Current regional powers Below are states that have been described as regional powers by international relations and political science academics, analysts, or other experts. These states to some extent meet the criteria to have regional power status, as described above. Different experts have differing views on exactly which states are regional powers. States are arranged by their region. East Asia China Considered an superpower by some political analysts and a significant regional power by others. Latin America Argentina Argentina has been called a regional power by the Council on Hemispheric Affairs Argentina and Brazil as regional leaders and by the Internationale Politik journal. It has the third List of countries by GDP (nominal) in the whole region, and it is also the fourth List of countries by population.Argentina is known to be a strong proponent of enhanced regional stability in South America. Middle East Egypt Egypt has been called a regional power in the Middle East by former U.S Secretary of Defense William S.
